Lucifer

“Father”—Athena tugged at him—“emotions cloud your judgement. This is exactly what the House of Zeus wants.”

“Listen to her, Lucifer,” Lilith said at the other side of him. “You’re acting on emotion. You haven’t thought this out.”

Lucifer kept his sword steady and level with his chin, pointing at his father who leaned over one side of his throne, speechless, like he hadn’t predicted this happening at this very moment.

“It is done,” Lucifer said to both. “The madness in the universe ends today.” He nodded at his father. “Come now, you ancient wreck, and face me. I’ll see you coming this time. Today you fall. Today old friends and family banished to Hell return to our loving eyes and embrace. When I’m done with you, I’ll give Poseidon to Calliope in her present state and I will relish every second of her tearing him apart.”

He pointed his sword at Poseidon.

Zeus smirked.

Lucifer’s father stood up, slowly, and the throne’s heartbeat faded away.

“It is the Almighty, no one dares,” Athena said to Lucifer. “It could be to the death.”

“I dare, my daughter. I dare to right everything.”

“You can still back out of this, Lucifer,” Lilith said. “You’re emotional from Calliope’s fate, everyone will understand.”

“Are you coming to face me?” Lucifer looked past Lilith at his father. “Or did you shit yourself from the thought of inevitable defeat?”

Lilith stepped in front of him. “If you think my vision involved this day, you have never been so wrong. I stand with you, nonetheless. I know that look in your eyes, there’s no changing your mind.”

“This is my battle, Lilith.” Lucifer pressed his forehead against hers, then pushed off and turned his back to his father with sword resting on his shoulder, returning the insult given to him not so long ago. He had lost some respect with the other angels, he saw it in their eyes, their brief acknowledgements of his presence as if he were a plague to avoid, something shameful.

Lilith walked to the side with Athena, opposite of the House of Zeus.

“Lilith will suffer the same fate as you, Lucifer,” his father said. “Think twice about this.”

“I welcome it.” Lilith spat on the ancient stone ground. “I will enjoy seeing my husband drag you defeated across this courtyard and through the heavens, announcing to the universe that it’s free of your psychosis.” She walked in a circle as she shouted, “Freedom!” to all those now standing in the doorways.

Lucifer’s army, the Seraphim at the top of the Nest, stood with heads bowed, fists over their armoured hearts. Michael remained emotionless, clasping the hilt of his sword.

Lilith continued to rev up support for Lucifer.

“Be silent!” the Almighty shouted.

Lucifer turned to see his father land in front of Lilith, backhanding her aside. She slammed hard against one of the walls of the Nest, bits of rock sprinkling on her. Staggering forward, she drew her sword, dizzied, bleeding from her nose.

“You’ll pay for that,” Lucifer said, motioning for Lilith to back off.
